educational philosophy

Research substantiates the notion that young people are competent and active knowledge seekers who learn best through experiences such as play, conversation, investigation, experimentation, and creation. When young people find themselves in a psychologically safe community, where consent and consensus allow for the needs of all to be accounted for, young people will feel free to learn. They will be intrinsically motivated to identify and engage in deep, meaningful, and enduring learning experiences. These experiences, when intentional and aligned with a Learner's needs, goals, and interests, allow the Learner to craft and lead a remarkable life.

While the ability to construct a remarkable life can set Learners up for acceptance into the most highly selective colleges and universities, far more importantly it equips them with the capacity to identify and take advantage of the opportunities they are presented with, and to create new opportunities when necessary, while having the resiliency to respond to the adversities and challenges of life.
